USDA is rethinking the food pyramid
At first I got all excited because I thought it meant they were reworking the recommended proportions, but no, it sounds like they're more or less taking the same thing and putting it in a different format. Why is that disappointing? Well, that food pyramid? The one with grains at the bottom, the fruits and veggies, then meat and protein up near the top? Those are the same proportions, almost exactly, that farmers use to fatten livestock like pigs and cattle.
To state that again - the USDA recommended diet is the same diet used to FATTEN PIGS.
Is it really any wonder our culture has an obesity problem?
