About damn time

I read in the paper today that, according to a state-wide survey, a majority of voters - a slight majority, but still, a majority - in CA favor same-sex marriage. Hopefully this means the supreme court's ruling will stand and that goddam proposal to amend the state constitution will fail. For a supposedly liberal state, it sure took long enough. The sad thing is there are still so many people who oppose same-sex marriage, and for reasons that fall apart in the face of the least amount of logic.

There's still a small but noisy contingent out here that think they can dictate how other people should live their lives. They filed a petition immediately demanding that the justices repeal their decision (jerks). They hope to delay any marriages until a ballot initiative goes through. Marriage should be about two people who love each other and want to live together for the rest of their lives, not whether there are an equal number of dicks and vaginas involved (argh!). It makes me angry because I know so many lovely gay couples who deserve the right to get married. It makes me ashamed of my fellow heterosexuals out there. Okay, I'll climb down off my soap box now...

I know! And the only reasons they can come up with are things like "it's just wrong" or "men and women are put here to procreate, and two men can't procreate!" So do they think post-menopausal women shouldn't be allowed to get married, either? Or that fertility tests should be mandatory for marriage? 9_9

I'm really, really hoping the court's decision stands.
