It is 3:30am here and I have just hit "something" on my keyboard that (apparently) banished my entire comment for you to the darkest uncharted depths of cyberspace.
Alas, poor comment, I did not know ye well...
Too much coffee, too late at night, has left me both tired AND wired. I find said combination is neither conducive to coherent (rational) thought nor to fine motor skills of the non-spastic variety.
What follows is the (VASTLY) abridged version of my (original) comment:
I will always enjoy a well-plotted, richly-detailed, Roy x Ed fic and your "Mother Arc" definitely falls into this category.
