Sorry, dear, not my drink of choice. If it's any consolation, earlier this week found me researching single malt scotch (also, not my drink). I second the rec of little_details; I've gotten a lot of help there in the past.
I'm coming from knowing next to nothing about alcohol at all ^^; I'll take a look at that comm, it looks really useful (though I'm probably over thinking this)
Overthinking is pretty common in writers, I believe, so you're not alone. I can't tell you how many things I've researched and spent ridiculous amounts of time on, for passing mentions- maybe a line or two- in a story. And heaven help me if I want to go into greater detail than that!!
And that sort of question would probably get answered pretty quickly there. It's a very straightforward question. Hope you get your answer soon!
I might just use cork and not think about it too much ^^; I just have visions of someone commenting with "but whiskey doesn't come that way for xyz reason".
