On the car

The insurance decided to total the car. Not a surprise given the car's age, but still a let-down. But yesterday, we went to check out a nearby Honda dealership, and ... ended up driving off with a car. Neither of us is quite sure how that happened, but good, I guess. It's a 2000 Toyota Corola. It's a nice car, and in good shape, and the money was decent. There just aren't a lot of good used cars around right now. The downsides are that we have to stick a cushion on the back of the seats to make them comfortable, and it's an automatic. But manual transmissions are sadly rare :(.

This means car payments and may mean tightening things up for a while, but it'll more than get us through until we can afford to replace my car. Actually, what'll probably end up happening is that mom'll get another car and I'll buy the Corola from her. Either way, it's a ways down the road.

I'm glad the situation is (sort of) resolved. Car troubles of any kind are always terrible. And maybe this is a regional thing, but how come you came out of a Honda dealership with a Toyota? ^^;

The used car stock is usually just whatever cars they get as trade-ins, so they can be of any make. We looked at a VW Jetta there, too. But yeah, I'm glad that part of it's over. Mom still has to deal with transferring the title of the old car and getting the money from the insurance, but at least we have two cars again.

Well that is good. My aunt has a 1998 Toyota Corola we bought her used back in geez 2004 or 2005 and she keeps it up and runs like a dream. It isn't pristine as far as interior/exterior because the girl we bought it from smoked and well had kids so we fixed it up best we could but it runs, A/C is freezing cold, heat works as well so she makes sure it will last her a bit longer.

That was one of the reasons we kinda jumped at chance when we found the car, if you take care of them Toyotas last forever. Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans. I do kinda wish it was a stick shift, but still, it's a good car.

Yep I will pay of my Xterra in January, THANK GOD and it will be 5 years old in September and I plan on keeping it another 5 years or more. Just saving part of that note for future repairs and a new vehicle in the future. The note is a killer but so worth it to get what you want.

I am 46 and this is only my 4th car in my life, a girl I work with isn't even 30 yet and she just bought a new car which is her 4th ... WTF really? I mean her Trailblazer was only 5 years old and she JUST paid it off, whatever seems rather dumb for me but she is high maintenance and can't be driving a ragged ride as she says *rolls eyes*
