HOLY FARKING HELL Hohenheim's badass level just ramped up exponentially!
Seems she's going for the "We gave everyone's soul back!" ending. Predictable, yeah, and possibly anticlimactic, but since it was set up well ahead of time (we now see), and there's still a lot of tension and conflict to go, I'll forgive her for it. We pretty much knew she wouldn't go for the downer ending, and the setup means it's not (quite) an ass-pull. That, and, Hohenheim and Scar are just FREAKIN' BADASS and I can't complain about that.
Mei was pretty kickass in this issue, too. I've actually grown rather fond of her. She's loony, but not someone you'd want to mess with. Too bad her voice on Brotherhood gets on my nerves.
I hope Roy and Greed/Ling get more action soon. I know there wasn't really anything they could do here, but it was still disappointing to see them both just standing there.
I have a feeling Hohenheim's gonna be toast. But I also have a feeling he'll be happy with that.
And now I have to get to bed because I have an interview tomorrow morning.

Date: 2010-03-15 11:09 pm (UTC)But yeah I kinda liked how she did it. I liked the bit about each body sucking its soul back like a magnet. And we already had canon evidence of that with Al, so it wasn't (really) an ass-pull, if you think about it.
I'm guessing Hoho has had it, too, cuz he dies in the anime canon, and they paralleled that in interesting ways. (Hope that doesn't mean Izumi is going to die, because we hearts her...!) But yeah. This chapter was awesome sauce...!
BTW PS I totally want a poster of that epic Scar/Bradley moment...!

Date: 2010-03-16 03:45 am (UTC)I'm glad she set up Hohenheim planting his "philosopher's stone seeds" quite a while ago, as well as the pull between the body and the soul (come to think of it, we also saw that with Barry the Chopper). She's obviously had this planned from the beginning. Almost a Xanatos Gambit on Hohenheim's part, but not quite.
