"Father" must have utilized a significant amount of energy in his face-off with Hohenheim, including creating his little star-bomb thing (though it could be argued that he sucked that back up). Does that mean that some of the people of Amestris got "used up" - and didn't return to their bodies? Or was all that energy that was still left over from Xerxies?

I wonder if she's even going to address this.

That struck me too. He might have used only the "free" souls from Xerxes so far, but that seems much too considerate for him.

If I should speculate up an answer, I would say that the bodyless souls might release their energy more easily than body-bound ones. Something like how one digest sugar compared to fat.

On the bright side: don't we all know some characters that would fit our FMA AU's better without souls? (Reinforcing my het-shield here.)

I really doubt he'd pick and choose on purpose - or if he did, he might use the Amestris souls out of spite. It seems he thinks of it all as generic energy.

I suspect not, as well - if she wanted to imply that some Amestrians got "used up" she probably would've shown some people not waking up.

Guess he must've used the Xerxian souls instead and the Amestrians were just all insanely lucky.
