Fanime (finally)

Coming home with a cold makes the post-con unpacking and cleanup take much longer than it should. Anyway.
The con went well, over all. Not horribly but not wonderfully, either. I netted about the same amount as last year. But it's not really enough to justify the hotel and all the prep and stress, so mom and I are both thinking that we might pass next year, depending on how this year goes financially and otherwise. Plus we both miss actually seeing the con. Especially since they've spun off the steampunk into it's own sub-con. Yeah, the badge gets you into both and there's a shuttle back and forth, but when you're stuck in Artists' Alley from 10 to 7 you really can't manage to get over there.
But on to some specifics:
I got a new cosplay done! This is actually the second time I've done this character. The first time was in high school, and I sadly don't have a photo. It wasn't bad, but it was about what you'd expect from a 16-year-old with no pattern drafting experience XD. Needless to say this version turned out much better.
The reactions I got ranged from "OMG Elfquest! Awesome!" to "....are you from... Legend of Zelda or something...?"
I didn't get a chance to browse around myself but I did score two items:
The girl behind me was doing custom stamps, so I asked her to do my Catjester logo. Isn't it adorable? She was worried that the eyes turned out too large but I love the way it looks. She wasn't charging much at all so I'd say it was money well spent.
And item 2....
Crappy cell phone picture is crappy, but you get the idea. New corset! Mom came across a booth in the dealer's hall that had a small selection of underbusts (though more like waist cinchers on me) on sale so she dragged me over. They're not high-end corsets but they're well made, with steel boning and heavy twill (though not herring bone coutil), and they're meant for tight-lacing so they're sturdy. The color wouldn't be my first choice but I love the pattern, and I'll mostly be wearing it under my clothes anyway. With spending all day either standing or sitting on not-great chairs, my back was not very happy. I wore this under my costume (different costume than above) on Monday and it really helped.
Mom was totally flirting with the owner of the shop, too.
I also discovered that I don't like someone else lacing me up. For one thing, the girl positioned the corset to my bust and not my waist (I scooted it down before she got to the lacing), for another, I lace for support and not for waist reduction and it's really hard to convey just where that point is. I finally just asked if I could tighten it myself, and then she watched so she could figure out just how in the heck I could do that XD. But it did fit, and it was on sale, and I'm really happy with it.
And oh yeah, one of my pieces sold in the art gallery, the print of Kraehe
. Another piece had a bid but the person never showed up to pay. And I must say, the guy who runs the gallery is a sweetheart and is pretty fed up with the fanime organizers all but ignoring the art gallery. Next year he plans to send the paperwork out himself and bypass the fanime web site.
That's about it. It was mostly a lot of sitting around and watching people go by, really. There were a lot of cool costumes but I only managed to get a few pictures. It's hard to catch people when you're stuck behind the table.
The cold has mostly gone away, BTW.
