Blegh....

And so we hit the end-of-semester blahs. The semester isn't even really over yet, according to the calender there's still one more lecture (which isn't up yet), and a test (which isn't up yet), but the big group project is done with and turned in, so I'm kinda... left with not much to do. So of course everything that's been pushed aside for school comes rushing back in, and OMGmustbedeltwithnow. Blegh. -_-;;

Writing meme, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] rainjoyous:

What's the last thing you wrote?
As in "worked on," Silver. As in "finished a post-able portion," Mother Arc 8.5.

Was it any good?
Pfft. Like I'm any judge of that.

What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
Gods, I never throw anything away, I'm sure the half-formed ideas I wrote down in middle school are around here somewhere. As is the little blue notebook I started writing a high fantasy story in back in high school...

Write poetry?
Every once in a great while, now.

Angsty poetry?
Back in high school, yes.

Most fun character you ever wrote?
I don't think I could pick just one. I got a kick out of Jonas, I wish there was a way to keep him around for more than 2 chapters, but the story moved away from him. Silver is my darling but I don't know if I'd call him "fun." In fanfic, Ed's a joy to write, and I get a kick out of Ed-Al-Winry interactions.

Most annoying character you ever wrote?
Annoying as a character or annoying to write? Um... antagonists I tend to have trouble with. Silver's a darling but he's also a pain, he emotes so little.

Best plot you ever wrote?
Plot? What plot?

Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
I don't know if I've ever written anything that could be called a "plot twist," I tend to focus too much on character interactions for that...

How often do you get writer's block?
Dunno. Sometimes.

How do you fix it?
Take a break. Pace. Write something else. Pace some more. I do my best thinking when I'm pacing.

Do you type or write by hand?
Type.

Do you save everything you write?
For good or ill, yes.

Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
Old ideas never die, they just mutate and bubble back up when you least expect it.

What's your favorite thing that you've written?
Hard to say. There are parts of Silver I really love. I quite liked In the Rough and keep meaning to come back to that 'verse someday. Ghosts and Demons I liked for the emotions and issues it dredges up. I'm very fond of some of my drabbles. But "favorite" depends on my mood at the time.

What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?
Hell if I know. Dating got the most comments, but I think the fandom was simply more active back then. I don't think I could judge this.

Do you ever show people your work?
You jest. Right? I think my friends got tired of me shoving it under their noses.

Who's your favorite constructive critic?
My mom. I know, common wisdom is that you should never give something to close friends and family for a crit, they won't give you honest feedback, but she's an excellent beta/editor. Trust me, she's not afraid to tell me when something's off.
But unfortunately she's not into fanfic, and for that I have no beta. I could probably use one, but, eh, I hate asking.

Did you ever write a novel?
Finished? Not yet. In progress? Yes. Hiatus? Yes.

Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
Fantasy and sci-fi.

Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
....Pretty sure most of my fanfic could fall under "romance." Angsty teen drama, one idea in particular that never got off the ground, I'll probably come back to it someday after I dredge it out from under the pile of clichés.

What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
Horror, because I'm a wuss. Mystery, I don't think my brain is organized enough for a proper mystery story. Western, not much interest.

How many writing projects are you working on right now?
....I'm going to say 2.

Do you want to write for a living?
That would be nice, but, I'm not prolific enough to have any delusions of that happening. Plus, I'd be in danger of never leaving the house. And then there's art....

Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
Nope.

Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Twice won third place in the short story contest at my high school.

Ever written something in script or play format?
Nope.

What is your favorite word?
....You want me to pick just one?

Do you ever write based on yourself?
Yes and no. More no than yes.

Which of your characters most resembles you?
Silver is the closest one to me, but he doesn't resemble me. But I have *cough* been guilty of the cameo.

Where do you get ideas for your characters?
Anywhere. Everywhere.

Do you ever write based on your dreams?
The entire first chapter of Silver. Otherwise, I take ideas from dreams here and there, and my fiction has been known to invade my dreams.

Do you prefer happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
Happy, but I won't twist a story to create one.

Have you ever written anything based on an artwork you've seen?
Not that I can think of.

Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Sometimes overly much so.

Ever write something entirely in chatspeak?
Good god no *shudders*.

Does music help you write?
Yes. Music helps me settle. It also helps me think (most of the time).

Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
I've gotten that reaction more often from art than writing. But then, most of the people I know in real life either don't know I write or gloss over the fact, and online it sometimes seems like every other person out there writes.

Quote something you've written.
"Of course, as pale as you are, people might start to think you're a vampire or something."
He gave me an odd look, the shades making it that much harder to read.
"They never go out in the day, either, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone started waving crosses at you, or garlic—"
"

I have to laugh at the awfulness of some of my old stuff - but I can't stand to throw it away ^_^;.

Please, steal away! I love reading the different answers to these kinds of things.
