I live out in California, but in the northern half and toward the interior, so winter is a thing that happens. And by that I mean we have a few pieces of clothing that get put away for roughly half the year. The last couple years, though, I haven't had to put on more than a sweater and a fleece jacket most days. So then when we get hit with stuff like this?



We, um, kinda aren't equipped to deal with it.

It's not unknown around here. We've got all the freeze warning stuff down like pipes-and-plants-and-pets etc. And I realize those of you who get an actual winter with ice and snow and all are probably rolling your eyes at us wimps, but - yeah, that's kinda the point, we are winter wimps. Like, unless you're someone who habitually travels up to gold country in the winter, you probably don't own more than one or two actual winter tops, and nothing warmer than a pair of jeans, which, um, isn't that warm. I don't think I own any sweaters that are actually wool, and I'm not even sure where I could get one outside of a sports store. I own gloves, but again, they're the wimpy oh-it's-50-degrees-and-kinda-windy, I-don't-want-to-touch-the-steering-wheel kind of gloves.

Our house isn't that well insulated, either, so the heating bill is going to be fun.

But actually? This is more like what I remember from when I was a kid. I remember having to wear a down jacket and walking to school with frost on the ground. This is still extreme for this area, but I'm also kinda going - oh yeah, winter. It's a thing.

You've probably all seen this already, but I wanted to add that if you want to back up your journal just in case, Dreamwidth lets you import all your entries WITH the comments AND your entire friends list. Account creation is still free and they make importing easy.

Livejournal is apparently "cracking down" on anyone who posts slash fic on this site, so BEWARE! I've been blocked from accessing the site, posting, ANYTHING. Simply because there is "gay content" in my journal.

If you post anything slashy, please spread the word & let others know that the Russian homophobia has spread to LJ. It's sad & pathetic, but that's apparently the case.

For the last few months, I've had trouble logging into my journal. I
worked around it with prozies, but apparently even that is at the
point of barely working any more. I have been blocked from access to
my friends page, inbox, communities, everything. I've sent numerous
reports to the so-called "support" team -- & gotten nothing but
crickets.

As of last night around 7 pm Eastern time, I was completely cut off
from LJ access. I've been informed (albeit rather politely, I'll grant
you that) of my journal's "gay content" being "investigated."

This is heinous, repulsive, & reprehensible in every way. I have done
NOTHING WRONG to cause me to be IP blocked. My fanfiction does not
harm anyone -- no one is forced to read it who doesn't want to. Yet
apparently the "Russian overlords" consider any kind of gay content in
a journal to be grounds for "investigation."

I think most of us knew this day was coming, but it still sucks in ways I cannot even begin to articulate. If you have any amount of gay content on your LJ, whether it's one fic or one thousand, please take steps to back-up your content if you have yet to do so, be it through Dreamwidth or Ao3 (I have a couple of invites if anyone needs one) or wherever best suits your needs.

Basically, the overhead fixtures and 2 walls of the living room are all that have power. We've run a heavy duty extension cord from the living room to the family room to plug in the modem, and brought the laptop into the living room to plug it in. But this is very much less than ideal and I have to turn the laptop over to Mom in a bit. I'll have to read all the wonderful Oct.4 fics later ^^;

We will hopefully have someone by today to tell us what's going on and if it can be fixed.

It's very windy here and we've lost partial power - as in select circuts are out. We've checked the breaker box and nothing changed. Mom's on the phone now to PG&E, trying to get through their automated system.

But among the things that are out are the fridge, Mom's computer, my computer, and the phone/cable modem. We've moved the fridge to the OTHER side of the kitchen (which still has power) but otherwise... We're kinda at a loss.

In short: I can't make fandom an obligation. This is supposed to be my escape, and instead it was becoming one more thing to stress over. This wasn't because of any person or any thing that happened, it was just - I guess - the headspace I was in. But the end result was that I haven't been writing at all, and it has taken a while for me to get past that aversion. I still want to finish these stories, and still want to write in the FMA world, I have no plans to leave any time soon. But you might have to bear with me.

What if in addition to celebrating October 3rd, we celebrate October 4th?

October 4th, 2003 is the day the first episode of Fullmetal Alchemist aired. Since it doesn’t look like BONES is going to throw confetti and since the fandom in general continues to prove itself real classy with its behavior towards first anime fans, I figured we could participate in something that is a celebration of FMA, specifically the first anime.

While we’d observe the usual October 3rd memorial for the franchise as a whole, we could post art, fics, graphics, videos, etc that are specific to Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) on the following day, the 4th of October.

What do you guys say? Project don’t.forget.Oct.4 sound like an idea?
