dragonimp: (Roy angst)
[personal profile] dragonimp
Author:[livejournal.com profile] dragonimp
Rating: G
Genre:Angst. I think this batch is trying to make up for all the fluff I've been posting c_c;
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Warnings: End of series spoilers if you squint.

5) Homeland

"Roy?"

"Hm?"

"Come with me."

"Ed—"

"You're invited! Winry and Granny, they want you to come." When Roy doesn't respond, he continues. "I want to show you my hometown. You've been there, but you've never seen it. I want to show you the river where we used to play on the rocks. I want to show you the general store. I bet you've never seen one, they don't have them in the city. I want—"

"Edward. . . ." Roy sighs, looking pained. "I'll consider it."

Edward is silent for a moment. "You know . . . the only one who still blames you . . . is you."

6) Hair

Ed fingers his lover's hair. The bangs are almost to the bottom of the eye patch. "You should cut your hair."

"I probably should."

"Why'd you let it go? You always used to keep it so neat."

Roy shrugs, not looking up from his book. "Not many barbers up there."

"There's plenty down here."

He turns a page. "I guess I didn't think about it."

Edward frowns, but doesn't press what he suspects is the real reason: Roy Mustang, the great womanizer, who shamelessly used his looks as both a tool and a shield, has stopped caring about his appearance.

9) Fire Wound/Scars

Edward wraps his arms around his lover, running his hands over his chest, his left hand seeking out and tracing familiar scars. Some bullet wounds. The long scars from Bradley's sword. Several from inconsequential events, such as childhood accidents. But there's one type of mark his fingers never find. "It's funny," he comments as he noses short black hair, "I always thought you'd have burn scars."

"I do." Roy sighs and wraps his own arms around Ed's. "They're just not visible."

Edward sighs in return and tightens his embrace, pressing his face to the back of his lover's neck. "Yeah."

29) Wretched/Heartless

Roy hates what he's doing, hates himself for doing it. But even more he hates the hollow, anguished look in the boy's eyes. Roy knows that look, knows better than anyone how paralyzing it can be.

Neither of them can afford that.

Hate me.

Cold, cruel, and bitingly true words come out of his mouth. They taste bitter, sharp. Anger fights its way into the boy's eyes, edges out anguish.

That's it. Hate me.

More cold, cutting truths. The boy cringes, but then glares, and runs away in disgust and anger.

Yes. Hate me. It's all I can give you.

30) Binds/Shackles

They lie awake sometimes and talk quietly in the dark. These conversations are different than any of the ones they have during the day. During the day, they're each bound. To the military, to their obligations, to their goals. By their pasts and by what they hope—need—to achieve for their futures. Daylight doesn't allow dreams, only goals and the hard, cold reality of reason.

In the dark, reality ceases to exist, and all that's important is the bed, and each other. This is the only time they allow themselves to dream.

This is why they cherish their nights.

I adore #9. You hit it right on the spot. ^~

All the drabbles were cute, though I feel your characterization might be a bit questionable in some. Still, characterization is subjective, so it might just be me.

100 words doesn't always alow for the best characterization, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of these read a little off. Which ones and how? I'm curious ^_^.

That's true; drabbles do have that about them, don't they? ^~ (Personally, I can't ever write 100 words--it always becomes like 143 or something.)

Mostly it's the first one, since Ed is a bit... sappy. And I was under the impression Winry still hated Roy. But kind of in general as well, since Ed's almost too kind to Roy. I mean, I guess it fits with the situation, but I've always seen him to have more spunk and attitude.

Maybe it is just me.

I don't think it's you, Ed came out incredibly sappy in this batch, especially taken all together (with the exception of #29). In defense of that, all I can say is that, well, he does have a sweet side... ^^;

#5 could have used some back story, it's a bit too ambiguous by itself. I see that taking place several years post-series, after Roy and Ed have been together for a while and Winry's had time to come to terms with her parents' deaths and Roy's part in it. She knows he was ordered, and she knows he hates himself for doing it. I can see her starting to think of Roy more as the weapon and Grand as the real murderer. I doubt they'd ever be on truly friendly terms, but she doesn't blame him anymore, and she's making an effort for Ed's sake.

And that was almost a drabble itself ^^;

I'm going to butt in if no-one minds ^^;

I honestly don't know how Winry ends up feeling about Roy - I think there are probably, yes, some *fantastically* huge crushing issues there, obviously - and it definitely puts Ed into a very difficult position. But Ed is actually far more forgiving than I think people often give him credit for. He did eventually repair his relationship with his dad to something like amicability. When he loves people, which isn't often, he does it so entirely he'll forgive pretty much anything.

Just my humble opinion, as *every* nosy person on the net says, obviously ;)

Oh, 5 is sad . . . and 29, yes, angst =(

I'm loving these little things. It's like popcorn - can just sit and read them for as long as there's some left. Yay for them ^^

Hee hee, popcorn ^_^.
Roy is so harsh to poor Ed in that scene after Nina dies, I always got the impression he was deliberately trying to direct Ed's anger outward.

It's definitely something Roy would do - an angry Ed is pretty much a normal Ed, a traumatised Ed is just . . . yes, Roy would set himself up as a target to keep Ed from hating himself. Which is adorable, but angsty ^^; Those boys can't make anything easy for themselves ;)

I love how short and simple they are - but they still hold so much detail to the imagination -- right?
Anyway, lots of <3 for your works :)

You are just amazing! How anyone can churn out the angst and characterization that you do in 100 words is beyond me. Nicely done!! But oh, the angst...mmmm, it makes a fangirl happy. :3 (Though I want to throttle the two sometimes!)

100 words is somehow both longer and shorter than it seems ^_^. Thanks! (LOL at your icon XD)
