It seems people discuss in-progress writing, and I'm wondering what I'm missing. Wrong venue, or do I not post things right?

Clarification please?

Ah, sorry, that was cryptic. It's that I keep noticing people on my f'list (and others) posting fics that have notes thanking people for thoughts and feedback and such. I don't get much if any response when I post about writing, though, so I'm wondering I'm doing differently. Because there are things I'd like to talk over and get feedback or help on.

Maybe they send private messages, so you don't see them discussing their writing when they actually are? Do you have a beta-reader for spelling and grammer and stuff? Some people have a beta reader for plot and techniques and so on too, I think. Maybe that's what you're looking for?

I would like a beta, I just got a little tired of asking. But I think that's a slightly different issue. I'd also just like to be able to talk to people about issues my writing is having. I guess I'm mostly wondering what I need to do differently.

Mmm. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything really. I guess feedback on writing discussion is a bit hit and miss. Either people answer a post or they don't. I don't really know what other way you can put up stuff for discussion. Unless there's a community out there for stuff like this, maybe?
Sorry, I'm not more help.

I do it by instant message myself. I have a couple of friends I talk to on aim or yahoo or whatnot, because I am impatient and stuff.

I might have to rethink using AIM; it doesn't seem many people want to discuss over LJ, or so it seems for my recent writing posts. (I'm not sure if it's that or that nobody had anything to say on the subject.) I've been shying away from IMs because I pop up and down from the computer so much, but like I said, I'm starting to feel disconnected from everyone.

I don't think I've ever had much of a writing discussion on LJ itself. I use AIM or Yahoo or Gtalk myself. I keep signed on all the time even though I'm not always around, but it's a good way to keep in touch with everyone.

I don't remember seeing much in the way of writing discussions on LJ, either. I'm suspecting the lack of response I got was more from what I posted than where, though, but either way it's discouraging.
