dreamwidth
May. 5th, 2009 05:16 pmI've set up a journal on dreamwidth. I'll still be keeping the LJ accounts, and you can comment over there using open ID. But now I need to decide how much I want to move.

impishclawmarks and dreamwidth's styles are currently a bit sparse, but I much prefer dw's adult content filters. So, merge or keep separate? If I turn dw into a fandom journal, I'l probably merge it with the fics. But if I move over wholesale, I'm kinda leaning to keeping the fics separate.

Date: 2009-05-06 01:20 am (UTC)The way DW is set up, there's no reason why you can't let the sites mirror one another. Move both personal and fic journal there (their importing function is fantastic- fast, and it includes comments, filters, icons, you name it), and still keep LJ as well- DW allows you to crosspost from their posting page, filters and all. Personally (and this is just my opinion), I like the idea of redundancy. Of course, I'm also a paranoid person, and always worried that I'm going to lose things through some terrible crash. ;) I'm just weird that way.
And I think we'll be seeing a lot more style enhancements on DW soon. After all, the site is still in beta, and debugging the major problems have been taking precedence over beautification.
I get the impression that there's going to be a lot more freedom over content, and less stress about posting things there. It's the one big fandom-issue thing that has worried me here, ever since the strikethrough debacles of a couple years ago. Neither I nor anyone I directly knew was affected by that, but the implications bothered me a great deal. And while FMA isn't the lightning rod that HP is/was, there's still room for the same kind of issues there if someone was to get a bug up their ass and decide that all these fics about Ed getting laid MUST be pedophilia or some nonsense. DW just feels like a safer place in that regard.
I'm probably babbling now... sorry, I'm a little foggy-headed this evening. I'm going to see how much of fandom ends up shifting over to DW- it's definitely going to be my headquarters for fandom-related material (if only because I won't feel obliged to f-lock it like I do here). And I'll still crosspost to LJ for the time being, but if the majority of folks drift that way, I might end up phasing out my fandom posts on LJ, and leaving it the more general stuff. *shrugs* My DW journaling is in beta, too. ;)
And I'll stop rambling now. :)
