Yaoi Con

HOLY SHIT yaoi con is early this year. I thought it was still going to be late October again so I thought I had some time. But according to the website pre-reg is over and the hotel block is already sold out. Yikes.

So, uh ... who's planning to go? IS anyone planning to go? Any hotel plans yet? I need to figure out if this is something I can afford.

I don't suppose your parents might be willing to lend you the air mattress? That all depends on how your fiance feels about it, of course. If your parents are cool with putting up a stranger from the internets, that'd be good, too :3

I was going to be over there for my car and ask them today, but turns out the starter on my mom's minivan abruptly went kaput, so I won't have a chance. Might be over there tomorrow; I'll see! Odds are they wouldn't mind, though – they've been giving me good-natured crap about my "imaginary friends" for years. XD'' They are a little bit… difficult to get used to, but they'd probably try to be on their best behavior for you – do you have a sort of general plan for the weekend in mind as far as which days you're going to and which nights you'd need a place to stay? Personally I'm probably only going to hit Saturday and Sunday (and maybe take Monday off work to recuperate at home, idek)… :/

Also, I was poking around in the YC tag earlier and found some randomer asking for people to share a hotel room. Will totally find a way to lodge you somewhere if I can, but I figured if you were still considering the hotel plan too, might as well flag it for you. ^^;

I was trying to figure out some sort of plan, but the website is still really vague and unhelpful :C. My biggest motivation for Friday would be to put art in the gallery, but I can't find anything on the site even saying there's going to be an art gallery! Things like the swap meet can be fun and a neat place to find some cheap stuff, but not worth driving over on it's own. Saturday and Sunday would probably be fine, and just hitting whatever events/panels/etc. are on those days.

There's a panel I quite like the sound of on Sunday at 10, but… timing could be a little tough; it's looking like home > Burlingame would round out at about an hour and a half if timed properly with the trains and all. XD I'm still sort of startled by how LITTLE is on the schedule at all, after Fanime, I think… XD

ALSO, lodging-wise – as I was starting to fear, my mother decided that ever doing me a solid in my liiiiiiiife (other than letting my stepdad do epic car maintenance, credit where it's due) is completely out of the question. :/ I'm trying to call in another favor but haven't gotten a response in two days, so… that's annoying. My mom said she's happy to loan me their air mattress, though, so worst-case scenario, I'll clear some space in here, and we'll do our best with it. ^^

I might be good on the floor with a futon, if I can unbury ours. The air mattress we have here is a double size, which sounds like it might be a bit big for your apartment? But either way is good.

That schedule page is insane, I don't remember it being quite so bad in past years @_@ but I wasn't looking too closely then, because I was the only one really interested in panels. It looks like there's some function where you can register for space in a panel ahead of time, but I'm not sure how that works. I still don't see anything about an art gallery or an art auction so I'm going to assume they're not doing that this year and not worry about it.

I was eyeing that 10:00 panel, too. I guess we can always shoot for it and see. (About how much cash would I need for the trains, BTW?)

We still need to coordinate timing, and food - I work Thursday, but asked for Friday off. As for food, it's just that this low-carb/Paleo junction I eat at can get kinda expensive, and I don't want to run up your food bill (or eat you out of eggs), so a grocery run so I can get stocked up might be in order.

I think my mom's is a double, too… probably we could dig up that much space in here, but you might be, uh, in front of a door. Either the front door or the bedroom door. I'm really bad at spacial estimates, so I'm not quite sure…

I've also put in a last-ditch begging email to someone with several spare rooms in their home, so I'll let you know if a miracle occurs. XD

…yeah, okay, wtf, YC? Just tried clicking around a little on the whole "Add to my sched" thing to see what was up, and it wants me to log in with Facebook, I guess, and… yeah, how about no. O__o

Train-wise, I'm pretty sure it'll come out to $7 each way… I know CalTrain is credit card-friendly, too, if that's easier. ^^

I am working Friday, because I suuuuuuuck, which means I probably won't get back into town until 6:30 or so… gah. (Also, I think we have three eggs left over from French toast, and I'm not sure how old they are, but you might be welcome to them, hahaha. XD'') We've got a Safeway, a Nob Hill, and a Whole Foods all pretty close together here in town, if that helps!

Side-side-side-note, are you planning to cosplay? I'm thinking seriously about setting up a photo shoot with some randomer I just saw in the tags because I am vain; would you be interested? :D

I am planning to cosplay, probably the Adora dress or Nightfall since those are my most recent costumes. I'm not sure how that would work for a photo shoot, but I'm up for anything (also don't mind being the photographer)

Sounds like it would work best if I came to your place Friday evening sometime, so we would be ready Saturday morning?

Sounds awesome! :D I ended up booking a photoshoot with a random cosplay photographer (whose FB page would have it that she's also from this town… small world of yaoi fans, I guess XD) from 4:30 to 5:30 on Saturday, partly just to see what the heck it's all about, so whether you want to come or do something else at the con in the meantime is totally up to you, and then with any luck we could catch the 5:43 train back. (And if not, they're every hour; gosh, however will we kill an hour surrounded by crazed con folks who also love anime. XD') I am also strongly in favor of some self-photoshooting, too; hands down the most fun I had at the first con I went to was just messing around taking pictures of each other. ^^

I've called in another favor but am waiting to hear back – this time it's my Hawkeye from Fanime; her family has a big house and are super-nice. Partly my worry is that this tiny little place has, yanno, one bathroom. Which I haven't cleaned in like two weeks. Although I'll be ameliorating some of the disaster in that regard by NOT bothering to take the hour to put contacts in, pff.

Anyway! I'll keep you posted on that – and either way, I think a Friday evening meetup (probably here) would be best, and we can get the rest sorted from there. :D

OOOOOKAAAAY, so here's where we are…

Hawkeye friend's parents would have been game, except that they're out of town this weekend, which fucking figures. :'D And as I thought might happen, Fiancé was sort of "can we not" about the whole trying to fit a mattress in here, which I think might have required knocking a wall down in any case… So the way I see it, we have a couple options:

1. Put you up in one of the hotels just down the road (which is looking like $150/night), and I can swing by in the morning, and we can head to the train station
2. Put you up in a hotel near one of the nearby CalTrain stations (which could be more like $90/night), and ditto
3. Learn how to teleport in the next two days
4. Meet up somewhere in the middle and possibly carpool up there instead of taking the train, since supposedly they have reserved parking
5. Either 1 or 2, but with you heading this way Saturday morning instead of Friday night to save a little bit of hotel musical chairs and also possibly avoiding some Friday evening traffic?

I am more than happy to spring for the hotel, because I promised you a free place to stay, and I fully intend to deliver, so… whatever sounds best to you is okay with me; just let me know. :]

On another not-especially-awesome note, I realized a bit late while looking dumbly at Google Maps the other day that it might be necessary to take a taxi the whopping one mile from the Broadway CalTrain station to the hotel itself, because it's got one of those "There might not be sidewalks where you're trying to cross this highway, just btw" warnings on the route. EUGH I HAVE EVERYTHING RN I'm going to try to stare at street view a little and see if there might be a way around this, but… there we are.

I am determined to have so much goddamn fun at YC to make up for the logistical headache, holy crap. :|

I do have that one-person futon, if space is the main issue. If Fiance is wary in general a hotel could work, too - we'll have to see what has rooms available.

511.org says there's a bus route between the station and the Con hotel, and also insists that there's a walking route that goes over the freeway on Broadway (says it takes 13min). Zooming in on Google maps, I can't tell if it actually has sidewalks or not! on Streetview it looks like it has narrow ones that may not be fun to walk on, depending on traffic. But it does look like there's a bus that goes most of the way, so that might be our best option.

Yeahhhh, a lot of it is also just that we're the only people who ever spend any time in this place, so (a) we live half out of boxes and crap because we're lazy; (b) we're used to being unguarded weirdos all the time; (c) there is embarrassing crap strewn around everywhere with reckless abandon.

That said! This look doable to you? Last time I was actually there was before they remodeled, and it looks like their rooms are actually sorta nice now… Let me know if it looks all right to you, and I'll go ahead and snag you a room. It is literally five minutes away from our place even if you catch all red lights, and it's right next to the highway onramp.

PFFFFF, my master plan is falling apart more by the minute… Though the bus thing is pretty great! Although a downside that I just discovered about the bus is that it comes at hr:24 and hr:54 on weekends, whereas the trains get in at hr:03. On the plus side, there's a Starbucks half a block down, so maybe we could just go get some coffee during the twenty minute wait…

homfg. Apparently this con does NOT want us to get there, so fuck you, YaoiCon; we're going to have the best time ever. XD'' Also! I have to swing by my parents' place tomorrow night and trade my new car in for the old Cargone car so that my stepdad can take it into a body shop Saturday for an estimate on how bad I fucked it up last month… so that's fun too.

That made me laugh because, um, this is our house. But yeah, I understand that :). Mom and I looked around at the hotels in the area and I went ahead and booked at the Inn of Los Gatos, since it looked like all the decent ones were around that same price - don't worry about paying for it, I was originally planning to pay for a hotel anyway.

Shame on you. ♥ Okay, gonna set myself a reminder to text you my address in a couple hours – basically you just hang a left at the intersection outside the Inn, going onto 9, and then keep going on 9 until you pass N. Santa Cruz and the Chevron, and then there will be a little left-turn lane. On your right is a cleaner's and a body shop and on your left there's a bank or something, and then once you turn onto the street we're just a block down. ^^
