I picked up the two paintings that didn't get accepted to the fair today. The paperwork didn't say which gate we were supposed to use, but the pick-up location was the same as the drop-off location, so, silly me, I assumed we would use the same gate. But no. That gate was closed. So now I'm around the back of the fair grounds, and there's no straightforward way to come around and check the other gates. But I make it around to the front. The front gate is open, but the only sign nearby is for "Employee Orientation," which was not what I wanted, so I assume - again - that I must want some other gate.

But no. That's the only gate that's open. I come back around, park, and ask they man in the booth where the fine art pick-up is. This is the gate I want, apparently, and he directs me across to the other side of the fair grounds - right next to the first gate I'd tried, by the way.

I mentioned this to the volunteers and they were just about as irritated with the lack of direction as I was. They suggested I call the main office, which I plan to do, come Monday, when the office is open.

Once I found a way in, everything else went fine. Two of the judges were there to give feedback on the artwork. One judge had liked the Blue and White better, because it holds together, and he wasn't too keen on the highlights on the green apple in Emerald and Garnet. The second judge had liked Emerald and Garnet better, because the Blue and White was a little too ambiguous, and Emerald and Garnet it has more interesting things going on such as the highlights. ^^; It just goes to show you how subjective art is. The both had other comments about them, and while I can see where they're coming from, I don't necessarily agree and I doubt I would have painted these two any differently. They were pieces I had for the hell of it, anyway.
