Isn't it? He goes from woe-is-me to determined and resourceful. I kinda felt like "Ohai Roy, I'd wondered where you'd gone." And Winry's line annoys me a whole lot less without the "I wouldn't want a boring guy" undertones.
I love reading different translations. Japanese is such a nuanced language- it's a real treat to read multiple fan translations, and then the 'official' English language mangas when they arrive. You can pick up some neat stuff in each one. (Though for the fan stuff, I've always liked HisshouBuraiKen's translations. I think he's doing MangaStream, though his have been used on OneManga from time to time as well.)
And it's so different from English; It makes me want to learn more Japanese just so I can tell which translation is "closer". As it is I've found a few places where the official translation took more liberties than I like. (My favorite scanlators stopped doing FMA some 20 chapters back D: I miss their translations, they always tried to take as few liberties with the meaning as possible.)
