Reply to a secret that basically said FMA (or rather, Brotherhood) would have been more interesting without Ed, Al, or Winry:

...This is likely the alcohol in me, but the replies asking "but wouldn't it not be Fullmetal Alchemist then?" are making me imagine, like, a musical spinoff that's only about the military characters now (but still focusing on the alchemy users), so it would just be called "Alchemists!" (jazz hands)

(or it's the punchline to a joke detailing all the terrible or morally ambiguous things they've done in the series. "So what do you call your act?" "The Alchemists!")

Okay, so who now wants to see an "Alchemists!" musical??

This seriously made my night. It hasn't been a good weekend.

Uummmm... Since LJ seems to be down for me and me alone, I'm guessing this cross-post will work. I've been getting "cannot access/not available" errors since yesterday. The rest of the internet is fine, so it's not my connection. But this means my f'list is now a big black hole, so - I hope I haven't missed anything important? I'll try to catch up once LJ decides to acknowledge my existence?

Anyone know what the deal is? I can't find any info on either LJ's Facebook or Twitter feeds.

Edit: it JUST came back up. Gaaah. I still don't know why my IP seemed to be on a blacklist but at least I can access the site now.

Just FYI, I'm now on tumblr. I still don't know what I'm going to use it for and right now it's empty, but it's there. I got it mostly to follow others, so if you're on there, drop me a line so I can add you!

Okay, I've run into this opinion a number of times now, and it bugs me. It is:

A man can't be a feminist. He can be a feminist ally, but not a feminist.

I guess the semantics are really important to some people, but I never thought it was a gendered term. This is the dictionary.com definition of feminist:

1. advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men.

2. an advocate of such rights.

And for feminism:

1. the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
2. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.
3. feminine character.

Nothing in that says you can't have a Y chromosome.

I'm sure there's a lot of men who don't "get it", but I'd say they're not truly feminists. For the ones who do get it - why kick them out of the club, as it were? Why reduce them to the secondary status of "ally"?

I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on this.

As promised, here's my recipe for low-carb cookies - it's a (very) modified version of the drop biscuits from Cooking with Coconut Flour and makes pretty cake-like cookies. The little bit of molasses gives them some brown sugar-like flavor and just enough actual sugar to make them fluffy instead of dense. I use NevadaMana brand chocolate chips for these because they don't use sugar alcohols.

1 cup liquid egg whites or 5 eggs
1/4 cup butter or coconut oil, melted
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sifted coconut flour
1/4 cup almond flour or meal (sifted if possible - almond meal gums up some sifters)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons stevia or Splenda (cup for cup) or to taste
1/4 teaspoon blackstrap molasses
sugar-free chocolate chips to taste
dash nutmeg and other spices to taste

Blend together the eggs, butter, sweetener, molasses, and salt. Combine flours with baking powder and whisk into batter until there are no lumps remaining (I use a large cooking fork for this, it works well and easier to clean than a whisk). Add the chocolate chips and spices. Drop batter by spoonfuls onto a parchment lined or greased cookie sheet. These don't spread as much as regular cookies so flatten them some here. Bake at 400° for 14 to 15 minutes.

The totals for the recipe are ~16g carbs, 35g protein, and 44g fat, and I usually get about a dozen (smallish) cookies out of this, so it works out to about 1.5g carbs, 3g protein, and 3.5g fat for each.

Prices are updated, items list is updated (I think - I keep finding things I hadn't put on there) and printed. Still need to lay out the display. Food is mostly made (want to make one or two more batches of crackers, but that's not necessary). New cosplay is finished (need to try it on one last time). I still need to pack, of course, but I think I'm on track.

....and in the meantime my brain is over here in the corner planning out how to make shoes. BECAUSE I'M NOT DOING ENOUGH ALREADY, ARGH.
